On a recent episode of his podcast “The Snake Pit”, WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts divulged some behind-the-scenes stories from his wrestling days. He shared anecdotes about his playful banter with Andre The Giant, his constant battle with a severe neck injury, and much more.
Here are some key takeaways from Jake Roberts’ podcast session:
Regarding playful interactions with Andre The Giant during their matches, he amusingly shared “Indeed, he would sit on me and pass gas. Just imagine the duration a giant can fart. He would drop 30-second bombs on me.”
When asked about his struggle with a grave neck injury in the late 1980s, he confessed “Fear held me back. I was petrified that leaving the ring might prevent me from returning. In 1987, my career was thriving, and it felt wrong to quit then. But my reluctance to address my injury was unwise. I grew overly dependent on painkillers and alcohol to cope, which was damaging.”
On the trigger that forced him to finally acknowledge and address his neck injury, he revealed “The situation worsened to the point where my left arm lost its functionality. In matches, I had to resort to trickery, convincing my opponents to target my arm so I could limit its use. I’m thankful that I use my right hand to deliver punches.”
