Despite his former days as a WWE Superstar now being a thing of the past, Matt Cardona, who previously held the NWA Worlds Champion title, still has aspirations to return to the WrestleMania stage.
Cardona left his persona of Zack Ryder behind in April 2020 when he parted ways with WWE. Post-departure, he has managed to enhance his star power in the wrestling universe by participating in different promotions. As a result, he has earned himself the title ‘Indy-God.’
In a recent episode of the podcast “Wrestling With Freddie”, Cardona opened up about his professional journey and the goals he still wishes to tick off his list. He said:
“This has been the most successful I’ve been in my career, but I would be lying if I said I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again or WrestleMania again and a few months ago, I had that match on AEW against Adam Copeland, Edge, and just man I have goosebumps right now thinking about it… If Tony Khan called me or Triple H, I would of course have a conversation, but like I don’t want to be back to be back.”
Going forward, Cardona expresses that he doesn’t merely wish to fill a spot on the roster as he did before. Instead, he hopes his recent achievements outside WWE may help ensure a more significant role, should he make a comeback.
As of now, Cardona is dealing with a torn pectoral muscle that has kept him sidelined since April. However, he’s been keeping busy in his new role as the General Manager of GameChanger Wrestling (GCW).
