AEW may soon present a groundbreaking first – a Blood & Guts match featuring women wrestlers.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Blood & Guts match is a unique event created by AEW, reminiscent of WWE’s WarGames. The format involves two wrestling rings, fully encased within a steel cage. While the event had originally been slated for 2020, it was unavoidably delayed due to the unprecedented disruption caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. However, it finally came to fruition on May 5, 2021, on an episode of AEW Dynamite, where teams The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle battled it out. Since its debut, AEW has set a tradition of holding this exhilarating event annually.
This year, the highly anticipated Blood & Guts event has been marked for Wednesday, July 24, where Team AEW and The Elite will be pitted against each other in what is sure to be an electrifying face-off.
AEW President Tony Khan, in a recent episode of the popular “Battleground” podcast, couldn’t help but express his excitement and optimism about the possibility of female wrestlers taking part in a Blood & Guts match in the future.
Khan candidly expressed, “At some point, it would be great to have a women’s Blood & Guts match. I think you need a lot of people tied in on [the] story and a lot of healthy people. We have a great roster that we’re building up, and I think our women’s roster is stronger than it’s ever been right now today. And I’m really excited about that. So if we ever get to the point where we’ve got enough people tied together and the story makes sense, I think it would be great.”
