Io Shirai Submits Toni Storm To Retain NXT Women’s Title

Tonight’s episode of NXT promised to be a big one, and to kick off the show, Io Shirai took on Toni Storm to defend her WWE NXT Women’s Championship. In an incredible match, Shirai was able to overcome a strong effort from Storm in a huge title defense victory.
Despite coming in as the favorite, Shirai came close to losing her title a few times, as Storm was clearly hungry from the start. Late in the match, though, Shirai was able to flip the momentum, and after kicking out of a pin attempt following a Storm Zero, she was able to drop the pair of them onto the mat. Shirai then locked Storm into the crossface, and while Storm nearly got to the ropes, she couldn’t make it, and was forced to tap out.
