In a tag team match taped last week for NXT Level Up featuring Javier Bernal, Duke Hudson, Riley Osborne, and Drake Morreaux, Bernal had to undergo surgery due to a foot injury he received. Thus, this occurred on June 4.
The injury occurred when Osborne performed a dive to the outside of the ring. This led to Bernal’s leg buckling. According to Fightful Select, after the match, Bernal was unable to stand without the help of referee and Morreaux.
As of now, there’s no official word as to whether Bernal’s injury influenced the outcome of the match. However, other sources within NXT have stated that Osborne was not at fault for the injury. Those familiar with the incident believe it was nothing more than an unfortunate accident.
Bernal has been a key figure in WWE programming since his debut in January 2022 on NXT and NXT Level Up. Bernal has been commended for his professionalism and dedication to his character by fellow WWE talent he has worked with. They define him as “nothing but professional” during his time with NXT.
An insider from WWE’s development brand remains optimistic that upon his return, Bernal will “pick up where he left off”.
