During her recent guesting at the “Ring the Belle” podcast, former WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey disclosed that in 2019, there were plans of staging a second all-female Evolution event. The planned event included a match between Rousey and her wrestling rival, Becky Lynch.
Despite the proposal, Rousey decided to decline the offer. She stated that her decision hinged on the fact that she wanted to take a hiatus from wrestling after WrestleMania 35.
The initial, and presently sole, Evolution pay-per-view event which featured entirely women was held in October 2018.
Rousey recounted her conversations with WWE about their plan for a subsequent Evolution. They offered an incentive, telling her, “If you stay after WrestleMania, we’ll host another Evolution in six weeks, and arrange a singles match involving you and Becky.”
Rousey, however, had made prior commitments. She had promised her family that she would take a break after WrestleMania. Despite her initial intention to stay from WrestleMania until Survivor Series, Rousey was persuaded by Triple H to extend her wrestling tenure to WrestleMania. As she explains, “I had kids, a husband, and a home. I’ve been absent for several weeks.”
Rousey went on to relay how her promise to her family affirmed her decision. She stated, “I couldn’t ask more of them. I made a promise to stay this long, and I’m not going to shift the goalpost.”
Despite the decline, Rousey expressed hopes that WWE would conduct another Evolution show. Rousey insisted, “I don’t think they need me for it, and they need to trust in the women because they are capable. That event was sold out, and I believe there should be more.”
In 2023, after losing to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam, Rousey parted ways with WWE.
