Actor Dustin Diamond tragically passed away today at the age of 44 and the man many knew as Screech from Saved By The Bell had his ties to wrestling.

Diamond was diagnosed with stage four cancer earlier this month and began undergoing chemotherapy. IMPACT Wrestling paid tribute to him, sharing a brief 20-second clip of him appearing at a TNA event during it’s “Asylum” era.

Several of Diamond’s Saved By The Bell co-stars shared their words of condolences honoring their former co-star on the classic TV series.

“Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dustin Diamond, a true comedic genius,” said co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar who played the role of main character Zack Morris on the series. “My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Looking back at our time working together, I will miss those raw, brilliant sparks that only he was able to produce. A pie in your face, my comrade.”

Diamond had had his share of demons after the success of Saved By The Bell and wrote a less-than-flattering book about his SVB companions in 2009.

“We are aware that Dustin is not considered reputable by most,” spokesman Roger Paul said in a statement about his death.

“He’s had a history of mishaps, of unfortunate events. We want the public to understand that he was not intentionally malevolent. He — much like the rest of those who act out and behave poorly — had undergone a great deal of turmoil and heartache. His actions, though rebukeable, stemmed from loss and the lack of knowledge on how to process that pain properly.”

We at WrestleZone would like to extend our prays and condolences to Mr. Diamond’s friends, fans and family during this time.
