Jim Ross has openly expressed his regret over the departure of CM Punk from AEW, particularly in light of the ex-World Champion’s thriving success since his WWE return.
Following a comprehensive investigation into a backstage brawl he had with Jack Perry at All In, Punk was dismissed from AEW in September 2023.
This marked the second time Punk was suspended in under a year, the first occurring after his remarks and a reported backstage brawl at All Out 2022.
Speaking on a recent episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross reflected on the events surrounding the dual reign AEW World Champion and lamented how they unfolded. He stated,
“I miss CM Punk. I believed he added a lot of value to the AEW roster during his stint. To be completely frank, I would have preferred if he was still part of our team. However, because of personality clashes, it didn’t pan out and that’s a shame.”
Following nearly a decade absence, Punk made his return to WWE at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2023. Since then, he has made multiple appearances for the company.
