The popularity and reputation of Hulk Hogan, the iconic wrestler, has taken a downward shift in recent times, particularly among wrestling fans. This drop in admiration was clearly indicated during the premier episode of RAW on Netflix, where the audience voiced their displeasure towards Hogan with a chorus of boos. Interestingly, this negative sentiment is not restricted to US audiences, with UK wrestling fans joining in the hostility towards the wrestler.

At a recent event in Nottingham, England, featuring Joe Hendry and Mark Henry which took place on a Sunday evening, the audience reacted to Hogan’s theme song being played with vehement booing. The response was so negative that the song had to be stopped abruptly. Mark Henry, who was engaged as the DJ for the evening, picked up the microphone and reiterated the famous quote by The Iron Sheik, “In the immortal words of The Iron Sheik, F**k Hulk Hogan!”

It appears that the major driving force behind this universal clamour is Hogan’s past misdemeanors, specifically his unceremonious exit from WWE in 2015 following revelations of him making racist comments, inclusive of some controversial remarks about his daughter’s relationship with a Black man.

While Hogan did make a comeback to WWE in 2018, there was a consensus among many that his apology lacked earnestness and his steps towards reconciliation were lacking. Rather than address the evil of racism, Hogan’s address to the WWE roster seemed to focus more on being careful of what one says in public.

Although he remains politically active as a supporter of Donald Trump, Hogan’s engagement with the wrestling world has lessened, with his latest appearance being during the debut of RAW on Netflix.
