Get ready for another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

The news is out— Blackpool Combat Club will defend their AEW World Trios Championships at AEW Grand Slam. But several questions remain, like whether the match will be held on Dynamite or Collision, who they will be contending against, and the big one—Will Wheeler Yuta be up to the task of fighting alongside PAC and Claudio Castagnoli? Even though Yuta stated in his interview that he’ll “kick whoever ass [he has] to,” he did reveal some inner conflict about his loyalties and perspective on their actions.

Here’s my question: “Who do you think should oppose them and how do you envisage the match transpiring?”

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Comment below.

Here’s my view…

We start by identifying the challengers. We don’t want this to be simply a plot to beat up Yuta and steal his title. Let’s park that thought for now. It doesn’t make sense for BCC to lose the titles, so we’re looking for challengers that represent a believable threat and worthy competition, but can still undergo defeat. Figuring this out without significant time for storyline development poses a challenge. We might need to make a spontaneous decision barring a relevant development on Collision.

I’m considering Dustin Rhodes and The Von Erichs as potential opponents. They are the ROH six-man tag team champions and must be considered top contenders. They would definitively position BCC as dominant heels and not just crowd pleasers. There are other possibilities of course – Cage of Agony or Shane Taylor Promotions, for instance. It does make for a viable match, but I find a babyface team more gripping.

If The Conglomerate weren’t already engaged in a feud with The Learning Tree, they’d be my first choice. They could potentially overthrow BCC, but it can’t happen here. An alternative choice could be Top Flight. Their spirited, sympathetic performance would be enjoyable. The Acclaimed with Billy Gunn would be an interesting third option, though it might be best to postpone that encounter.

No matter who goes against them, the outcome of the match results in a distinct narrative.

In the match, I would portray Yuta with a divergent style compared to Pac and Castagnoli. Yuta maintains his regular style – disciplined, yet unrelenting. As the game heats up, Pac and Castagnoli get agitated with Yuta’s inability to seize control. Castagnoli plays the good cop, reviving Yuta and urging him to refocus and pull their weight. But Yuta again loses control when he’s tagged back in. Pac, now losing patience, lashes out at him, forcing Yuta to renounce his old ways and adapt to their ruthless style.

An altercation ensues between Yuta and Pac, which serves as a distraction, nearly costing them the match. Eventually, Castagnoli emerges victorious for the team. After the match, an embittered Pac snatches Yuta’s title, claiming he doesn’t deserve it. A seemingly conciliatory Castagnoli retrieves the title from Pac, only to drop it in front of Yuta. A savage beatdown of Yuta follows this revelation, possibly involving Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir.

Later, during a backstage interview or promo on Collision or the next week’s Dynamite, they explain that they have stripped Yuta of his title due to his weakness and will be holding tryouts for a new member.

This will have repercussions across the entire roster, and will undoubtedly lead to a scramble for the vacant spot among existing members as well as potential recruits from outside of AEW. Over the next few weeks, we can watch several contenders fighting for this coveted spot, only to be repeatedly rejected, as the BCC members look for the perfect fit.

Personally, I would vouch for Daniel Garcia, provided he’s sticking around. Yuta, after reuniting with Bryan Danielson, battles it out with BCC members, particularly Moxley, leading up to WrestleDream.
