I remember he threw all the chairs and Bullet Bob was down, and when he climbed up on that rope ‘No f**king way Terry Funk’s gonna do a moonsault,’ and there he goes… I remember thinking ‘What possessed Terry Funk in 1994 — I think he was 50 — to do a moonsault on this show?’ Because it wasn’t televised, it wasn’t WrestleMania.”
On being inspired by Funk: “To this day, I’m doing some of these things … where it’s like ‘Terry Funk would do it, so why not?’”

In a recent episode of his podcast “Talk Is Jericho,” AEW wrestler Chris Jericho opened up about his admiration for legendary wrestler Terry Funk and how Funk inspired him to take crazy bumps in the ring. Jericho also shared his memories of watching Funk wrestle in Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
During the podcast, Jericho recalled a specific match between Funk and “Bullet” Bob Armstrong. He vividly remembered Funk throwing all the chairs and Armstrong being down on the mat. Jericho couldn’t believe his eyes when Funk climbed up on the ropes and executed a moonsault, a high-risk move where the wrestler flips in mid-air before landing on their opponent. Jericho expressed his astonishment, saying, “No f**king way Terry Funk’s gonna do a moonsault,” but to his surprise, Funk did it. Jericho couldn’t understand what possessed Funk, who was around 50 years old at the time, to attempt such a dangerous move in a non-televised event like Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
Jericho admitted that Funk’s daring actions left a lasting impact on him. He revealed that even to this day, he incorporates some of Funk’s risky maneuvers into his own wrestling style, believing that if Funk could do it, then why not him? Jericho’s admiration for Funk’s fearlessness and willingness to push boundaries has influenced his own approach to wrestling.
