The Honky Tonk Man’s historic WWE Intercontinental Championship reign, which is the longest reign with the title in history, is expected to be soon surpassed by GUNTHER, as his tenure with the title reaches an impressive 444 days.
During a virtual signing event held by Highspots, Honky Tonk Man was requested to autograph an item as the “Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All-Time.” In response, he humorously remarked, “At least for a few more days.”
WWE attributes a span of 453 days to Honky Tonk Man’s title reign, yet he is convinced that the company has inadvertently deducted a day from his record.
During the signing, he also discussed his thoughts at Gunther potentially surpassing his record. Honky commented,
“It’s been interesting. I haven’t really kept up with it, I didn’t know a lot about it. [Fans] ask me about it all the time. I don’t know where someone is posting this 453 days. They’re shorting me one day and that’s not fair. I got the 454 days from Howard Finkel, he was the one who told me.”
GUNTHER is poised to surpass WWE’s officially recognized record for Honky Tonk Man on September 7.
