Hikaru Shida wants people to be treated equally.

Shida posted the following video to her YouTube account, addressing the trending #StopAsianHate hashtag. The phrase has gained even more attention since a man murdered eight people at Atlanta-area spas, six of which were Asian women.

“Hello everyone, this is Hikaru Shida, AEW Women’s World Champion. Let me tell you my opinion about #StopAsianHate. It has been almost a year and a half since I started to live here. I’ve never felt discriminated. Never. And, I don’t want to say that I’m lucky because it should be normal for everyone. I hope that people, not only Asian, people all over the world, live normal, equal lives. Thank you for watching.”

Despite claims that the attack was not motivated by race, people have been speaking up about the issue and bringing attention to the rising number of attacks on Asian people since the start of the coronavirus outbreak last year. The man responsible for the shootings is being charged with multiple counts of murder. He admitted to the shootings but denied that the attack was motivated by race.

The spokesman that claimed the shooter “had a very bad day”, remark, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jay Baker, has been removed from the case due to backlash about his remarks, along with the discovery of his Facebook activity promoting anti-Chinese apparel related to the COVID-19 outbreak.
