Recently, in an interaction with “Inside the Ropes,” the former WWE Superstar Heath Slater opened up about how he was directed to modify his style when he was elevated to NXT, owing to his striking resemblance with Edge.

Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

Relating to the time he was asked to thange his physical appearance for debuting on NXT, Slater said, “Dr. Tom (Prichard) picked eight of us and evidently wanted the best eight ready for TV. Soon they realized that I bore a striking resemblance to Edge. Everything from my long hair, coat, and even my tights somehow reminded them of Edge. They suggested I get a haircut and change my wrestling gear before I debuted on NXT. They turned me into someone I barely recognized. It felt as though my real identity was being taken away from me.”

Heath also threw light on how NXT had modified their point system, “We were initially told that there was going to be a point-based system, akin to any other show. However, what we ended up with was a far cry from the original plan. It was so chaotic that we started making fun of it. It felt like we were being used as test subjects for a show they were trying to make successful.”
