Heath Slater On The Nexus: We Should Have Taken Over At SummerSlam

Heath Slater

With Heath Slater leaving WWE earlier this month, the dream of The Nexus is well and truly dead. Every member of the Nexus Seven is now out of WWE, with the exception of David Otunga, who is an out of ring analyst/coffee drinker. Regardless, one of the hottest WWE angles in the last decade ended almost as quickly as it began. Talking with Busted Open Radio, Slater says that it wasn’t always supposed to be that way.

Going into SummerSlam that year, Slater said that he knew he was winning, and that it was the preferred outcome. “My goodness, I wish we could have had our hands, our grip on it a little more. It died way too soon, and we all know this. SummerSlam, we should have took over, we should have won. Period.”

Slater continues that Cena singlehandedly dismantling the group that night caused the group to shift “from fourth to second gear.” “We couldn’t wait a few more months to Mania so we could have a mega-group? Sure, destroy us then or whatever, but it shouldn’t have ended at SummerSlam, man.”
