Wrestling star Kenny Omega recently discussed the possibility of having a mixed tag team tournament at AEW during a live stream on Twitch. He revealed that the idea of mixed-tag matches in AEW is not novel, as the organization has experimented with such matches earlier. However, these discussions appear to be resurfacing now and then, and this trend doesn’t seem to be waning.
Omega stated, “I keep hearing every now and then, it’s tossed around. Every now and then in AEW, there are rumblings about doing a mixed tag tournament. It’s something that keeps coming up.”
He further divulged his thoughts, stating that if this tournament was to take place, his deliberations were more inclined to potential tag team partnerships rather than individual matchups. Elucidating his stance, he explained, “I’d put more thought into what a tag team would look like rather than what a singles would look like.”
The skilled wrestler also mentioned some potential participants he would be excited to witness, including Mayu Iwatani and Starlight Kid. They are two of his current favorites from Stardom promotion. “Having her team up with someone, or Starlight Kid teaming with someone — those are two of my favorites from Stardom right now. There are countless others. Chihiro Hashimoto — she’s incredible, too,” Omega reflected.
