Metalik reportedly refused to lose the match and the bout was nixed.

Fightful Select is now reporting a slightly different version of the story, which states that AEW only ever planned to have three matches for that episode of Rampage.

The original plan was to have a four-way match between Lince Dorado, Penta El Zero Miedo, Komander, and Metalik.

That match ultimately became a three-way bout due to Dorado’s CMLL ties. Metalik was slated to lose the match, but the luchador wasn’t interested in losing matches without being under a full-time deal with AEW.

AEW noted that they understood Metalik’s position and instead booked a replacement match for the third bout, which was Konosuke Takeshita vs. Kyle Fletcher.

AEW Changes Plans for AEW Rampage Due to Gran Metalik’s Refusal to Lose

In the world of professional wrestling, unexpected twists and turns are not uncommon. Recently, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) had to change their plans for an episode of AEW Rampage due to Gran Metalik’s refusal to lose a match.

The scheduled match for the October 25th episode of Rampage was supposed to be between Komander and Metalik in singles action. However, Metalik reportedly refused to lose the match, leading to the bout being canceled.

According to a report from Fightful Select, AEW had originally planned to have a four-way match involving Lince Dorado, Penta El Zero Miedo, Komander, and Metalik. However, due to Dorado’s ties with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), the match was changed to a three-way bout.

Metalik was slated to lose the match, but he wasn’t interested in losing matches without being under a full-time deal with AEW. This decision by Metalik led AEW to understand his position and instead book a replacement match for the third bout, which featured Konosuke Takeshita vs. Kyle Fletcher.

It is worth noting that Metalik’s refusal to lose may stem from his desire to protect his character and maintain a strong position in the wrestling industry. Losing matches without a long-term commitment to AEW could potentially harm his reputation and future opportunities.

AEW’s willingness to accommodate Metalik’s concerns demonstrates their understanding of the importance wrestlers place on their characters and their desire for creative control. It also highlights the collaborative nature of professional wrestling promotions, where changes are made to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.

As fans, it’s important to remember that professional wrestling is a unique blend of athleticism, storytelling, and entertainment. Behind the scenes, wrestlers have their own motivations and goals, which can sometimes lead to unexpected changes in plans.
