The renowned wrestler, Goldberg, recently expressed his sentiments regarding the trajectory of his wrestling character on “The Ariel Helwani Show.”
The athlete also voiced his thoughts on the potential opponent for his retirement match.
The conversation on the podcast is summarized in the following highlights:
Discussing his 1998 bout with DDP at WCW Halloween Havoc: “Dallas presented a 14-page plan for the match where he likely wanted seven spears from me. Until that point, each opponent I faced received only one spear from me. Sting, in his unique way, expressed to me that the match turned out to be one of my best decisions. Analysing it from a business perspective, I should have taken such decisions more frequently. I was overly protective of my character. Many people form the impression that I favor myself excessively. I might have given off that impression because I didn’t get support from anyone else. I transitioned from professional football to wrestling and challenged seasoned wrestlers which could have appeared threatening. Although I may have treated this transition lightly, I believe my divergent approach contributed to my unique brand and relative success in wrestling. There are certain aspects of my wrestling prowess that remain exclusive to me.”
Considering opponents for his final match: “I never had the opportunity to face Cena. It would have been an interesting match. However, considering present circumstances, does that make business sense? A majority of the current wrestling viewers might not remember me or might have negative connotations associated with me. I always believe I brought a fresh approach to wrestling.
“There is a wide range of wrestlers I would like to face off with in my last match. I would particularly be interested in a rematch with Roman [Reigns]. There are plenty of really gifted wrestlers who are on the verge of achieving stardom. Bron Breakker is one among them. The ultimate decision lies in the hands of the people in charge. Hopefully, I can present myself in a way that will leave a positive and lasting impression on today’s wrestling fans.”
