AEW’s Death Triangle could have become a Death Square had former contracted talent Fuego Del Sol been added to the group.
Del Sol left AEW earlier this year, and during a YouTube video recalling his failed pitches in AEW, he recalled having the idea to be the faction’s apprentice. He said,
“In early 2022, I had a random match on AEW Rampage with The House of Black. It was just supposed to be a one-time thing where me and Bear Country [Iron Savages] wrestled The House of Black because they needed some guys to beat that night. However, Malakai [Black] and Buddy [Matthews] saw the reaction that I was getting from the crowd and decided to prolong this because they were in a rivalry with Death Triangle at the time, Fenix had gotten hurt, and they needed to kill some time until Fenix’s return.
“So in the meantime, they thought they would feud with me to eventually set up the big return of Fenix and the Death Triangle. Because this randomly fell in my lap and I was going to get to wrestle The House of Black a few more times, I realized this could be an opportunity for me to do something bigger.
“I thought I would make a great apprentice to the Lucha Brothers and that I could have a really fun dynamic going back and forth with PAC. Like PAC didn’t like me, but I was trying to earn his respect [but] The Lucha Brothers liked me and saw that I had potential. I wanted to slowly but surely have this fun back and forth with PAC, where he treats me like crap, he could beat me up, throw me around, do all the dastardly bastard things that PAC does, but I slowly but surely earned his respect as the apprentice to the Death Triangle. I don’t think it would have made it a ‘Death Square’ by any means, but just an apprentice to the Death Triangle.”
Del Sol said that when he spoke to PAC backstage, the British wrestler liked the idea and encouraged him to speak to management.
While Del Sol spoke to higher-ups, the idea never materialized on TV and the masked wrestler was unsure if the idea ever made it to Tony Khan.

AEW’s Death Triangle, consisting of Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero M, and PAC, is a popular faction in the world of professional wrestling. However, it could have taken a different shape if former AEW talent Fuego Del Sol had joined the group.
Del Sol recently left AEW and shared his failed pitches in a YouTube video. He revealed that he had the idea to become the apprentice of the Death Triangle. This idea came about after a random match on AEW Rampage with The House of Black in early 2022. Del Sol and Bear Country were supposed to wrestle The House of Black for one night, but the reaction from the crowd caught the attention of Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews.
At the time, Death Triangle was in a rivalry with The House of Black, and Fenix was injured, so they needed to fill the time until his return. Seeing this as an opportunity, Del Sol thought he could become an apprentice to the Lucha Brothers and have a dynamic relationship with PAC. He envisioned PAC treating him poorly while slowly earning his respect as the apprentice to the Death Triangle.
Del Sol discussed his idea with PAC backstage, and the British wrestler liked it and encouraged him to speak to management. However, despite his efforts, the idea never materialized on TV, and Del Sol was unsure if it ever reached Tony Khan, the president and CEO of AEW.
It’s interesting to speculate how Del Sol’s addition to the Death Triangle could have changed the faction’s dynamics. The Death Triangle is known for its high-flying and intense style, and Del Sol’s lucha libre background would have fit well with the group. Additionally, his role as an apprentice could have added an intriguing storyline element to their feuds.
Unfortunately, we may never know how this storyline would have played out or what impact it could have had on AEW. Nevertheless, it’s fascinating to hear about the creative ideas that wrestlers come up with and the potential storylines that never make it to television.
In conclusion, AEW’s Death Triangle could have become a Death Square if Fuego Del Sol had joined the group as their apprentice. While the idea never came to fruition, it’s a reminder of the creative possibilities in professional wrestling and the ideas that wrestlers bring to the table.
