Freddie Prinze Jr. Names Bianca Belair vs. IYO SKY As The Best WWE Backlash 2023 Match

Speaking on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. named the RAW Women’s Title match between Bianca Belair and IYO SKY as the best match at this year’s Backlash 2023 pay-per-view event.

Prinze noted how much he enjoyed the execution of the bout and the crowd dynamic in determining the heel and face dynamic during the fight.

On the impact that the match carried as a part of the complete show: “Let me tell you right now, they burnt the house down in the very first match. The two women — and the crowd is not equally responsible — but they played a huge part in this match.”

On how both wrestlers seized the arena: “I didn’t think I would love the match as much as I did. This was, from jump street, these girls owned the crowd. The crowd felt like they were part of the match. IYO let them know that their love was appreciated. But she didn’t do it in an, ‘aw, shucks,’ kind of way, she did it like, ‘Yeah, that’s right, I’m badass, and you know it.’”
