All directions point to Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar, tied 1-1, squaring off once again at SummerSlam 2023. Despite Lesnar’s absence, the feud has been heating up more and more thanks to The American Nightmare’s bold promos over the past couple of weeks.
Despite Rhodes being injured (in kayfabe) and thus not wrestling on TV, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. believes that he has been doing an incredible job in keeping his feud with Brock Lesnar hot, despite Lesnar’s absence and Cody’s “injury.” Speaking on his podcast Wrestling with Freddie, he said,
“It’s gotta be difficult to keep the crowd behind you when you can’t wrestle every week and have it mean something. When you’re wrestling the top, top, top dudes, they’re not wrestling every week like mid-carders. You just can’t feed Cody mid-carders every week. That can get bland.
So, for him to come out there and cut these promos, and make them different enough every week, but still living in that same vein, that’s worthy of respect and all the social media celebration it’s gotten. It’s been a week and I still see that ‘Brock Lesnar is afraid of Cody Rhodes.’ I still see that over my Instagram feed.”
Per Bryan Alvarez, ‘Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar III’ is reportedly slated to have a stipulation that “we have not seen in a while.”
