Former Wrestler Jake Roberts Claims Randy Savage Believed His Snake Poisoned Him

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage was immensely paranoid regarding the infamous snake-bite segment he was a part of, Jake Roberts has revealed.

The segment in question saw Roberts use his snake Damian to bite Savage. Prior to the segment, Roberts had shown backstage that the snake was not venomous.

On a recent edition of the “Dark Side of the Ring: Unheard” podcast, Roberts recalled Savage getting ill not long after and blaming the snake. He said,

“Randy convinced himself that he was getting sick. Then he wounds up getting a staph infection, so his arm blows up. [He’s] like, ‘God damn that f**king snake, look at this f**king sh*t man,’ so in his own mind convinced himself that, ‘That f**king snake had done that,’ wasn’t the f**king snake that did that Randy. You don’t get staph from a snake, you get staph from dirt.”

Savage passed away in 2011 at the age of 58. These days, Roberts works for All Elite Wrestling and recently re-signed with the promotion.

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage was reportedly paranoid about the snake-bite segment he participated in during his wrestling career, according to Jake Roberts. The segment involved Roberts using his snake Damian to bite Savage, but prior to the incident, Roberts had shown backstage that the snake was not venomous.

In a recent episode of the “Dark Side of the Ring: Unheard” podcast, Roberts shared his recollection of Savage falling ill shortly after the segment and blaming the snake for his health issues. Roberts stated, “Randy convinced himself that he was getting sick. Then he wound up getting a staph infection, so his arm blows up.

Unfortunately, Savage passed away in 2011 at the age of 58, but his legacy as one of the most iconic professional wrestlers of all time lives on. Meanwhile, Jake Roberts continues to work in the wrestling industry and recently re-signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

The snake-bite segment involving Savage and Roberts remains a memorable moment in wrestling history. It highlights the dedication and commitment of wrestlers to entertain their audience, even if it means participating in risky and potentially dangerous stunts. However, it is important to note that the incident did not result in any long-term harm to Savage, as the snake was non-venomous.

The revelation of Savage’s paranoia sheds light on the psychological toll that professional wrestling can have on its performers. The physical demands and constant pressure to deliver captivating performances can lead to wrestlers developing fears and anxieties related to their craft.

As fans continue to reminisce about the golden era of professional wrestling, stories like these provide a deeper understanding of the behind-the-scenes challenges faced by their favorite wrestlers.
