Former WCW Star Van Hammer Arrested For DUI, Crashing Into Child On Bike
Mark Hildreth, known to fans as WCW’s Van Hammer, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a drunk driving incident led to him crashing into a bicycle with training wheels piloted by a five-year-old boy. The former wrestler was traveling 58 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone when he struck the boy, who flew onto the car’s hood. The victim, who was riding with his father at the time, suffered possible internal injuries and “road rash.” He was declared to be stable late Sunday.
Hildreth fled the scene of the incident after the crash, and later refused a field test and a breath sample. The former wrestler was charged with a hit and run and his second DUI after an arrest in 2004. He was jailed with a $125,000 bail and an option for house arrest. After retiring from the ring in 2002, he began work in the home improvement field. He is currently the vice president of operations and sales manager at Paradise Exteriors in Boynton Beach, Florida.
