Footballer Tony Modra Angry At WWE’s Tony Modra Over Name Change
Professional Australian football player Tony Modra is not too happy about WWE superstar Brendan Vink changing his name. The WWE superstar who previously went by Vink has recently changed his name to Tony Modra in an apparent way to honor the AFL player, and the real Modra isn’t too happy about it.
The actual Modra – who played in the AFL in the 1990s – recently spoke with Adelaide Now about the news, and said that it was more of a disrespectful thing than anything else. “I’ve got no idea who he is. He claims to be an Adelaide fan but it’s a bit disappointing, a bit disrespectful. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know you had to copyright your own bloody name,” he said. “My lad loves WWE and I see a lot of that stuff but he’s even asking why some wrestler he’s never heard of before wants to change his name to his dad’s.
“I’m just bewildered. I’ve had people texting me left, right and center about it. I don’t think there’s anything I can do. If he was doing it for charity or something – I do a lot of stuff for Little Heroes Foundation – I wouldn’t mind, but it seems like personal gain.”
It’s unknown if Vink will change his name after the real Modra has sounded off, but it seems as if the homage to the AFL superstar did not go as planned. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what happens going forward, especially with Modra being so vocally against the idea of someone else using his name.
