At the WWE Superstar Spectacle media scrum on Friday, eWrestlingNews.com’s Tathya Sachdev caught up with the current and longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, GUNTHER. In a brief interview, GUNTHER, when asked about wrestlers outside of WWE he would like to work with, kind of dodged the question. He also discussed his plans for WrestleMania 40.
Question: “Outside of WWE, GUNTHER, are there any wrestlers on your radar that you would like to tangle with in the near future?”
Answer: “Yeah. there are plenty. We have a lot of great wrestlers in the world right now. But I’m focused on what I’m doing right now. And, I think, I’m the one that people pick out and look to be with in the ring right now.”
Question: What is your goal for WrestleMania 40? Winning the Royal Rumble, potentially challenging for a World Championship, is that on your ultimate goal?
Answer: “We’ll see… I’m the Intercontinental Champion; don’t plan on losing the title. If I am in the Royal Rumble, I’ll be one of the favorites, I would guess. That leads to WrestleMania, so we’ll see what happens.
Last year, I entered at No. 1, broke the record for the longest time spent in the match. Cody Rhodes went on to win, he eliminated me last, so that was of course heartbreaking, but I look to the future.”
At WWE Superstar Spectacle, GUNTHER retained the Intercontinental Championship over Shanky.
