Tegan Nox, who wrestled as Nixon Newell in WWE, has recently talked about her life after leaving WWE, as well as a severe car crash that happened soon after her exit from the company.
On a recent episode of the podcast “Busted Open Radio”, Nox clarified statements she had made earlier about a shortage of wrestling bookings, illuminating her current place in the wrestling world. She explained that the car crash had heavily affected her capacity to take on work, thus causing a quiet period in her schedule after she left WWE.
Highlights from the podcast are included below:
On whether her lack of self-promotion contributed to the booking issue: “Certainly. It’s undoubtedly a grind, and I think that’s part of it. I have faced quite a bit in the previous few months, which, as I mentioned in a post, unfortunately pushed wrestling to take a backseat in my life. Days after leaving, I was involved in a major car collision. So, dealing with that, and then, when my 90 days were up, I had to immediately return home and do some shows, but life has been so chaotic lately that wrestling has unfortunately had to be pushed aside. However, after posting a promo on Instagram recently, the feedback and interest it received helped me realize that I had indeed been slacking. I should not have demoted wrestling so much in my life.”
On her plans to promote herself better: “I’m now doing promos, taking pictures, and doing various things to put myself back out there, and I want the name Nixon Newell to remain in people’s memories because that’s where I want to be. I foresee my future as nothing but wrestling. I hope to continue my involvement with wrestling as long as I physically can, as either an active wrestler, producer, trainer, coach, or other roles in wrestling. I was 16 when I started my wrestling journey and this will be my 14th year in wrestling this year.
“I genuinely think that after posting that promo and seeing the responses it generated, wrestling took too much of a backseat. Life is hard, and everybody faces their own battles. I should have been more proactive, and now that I’ve recognized that, I’m pressing hard on the accelerator. Bookings have started increasing again since I posted the promo about a week and a half ago, and I’m generally wrestling quite frequently now. It’s not as busy as I would like it to be, but things are starting to improve. I’ve recognized my errors and I am rectifying them.”
On a potential WWE return: “There might be a chance. I hope the door is always open for a WWE return, but at the moment, I want to wrestle everywhere possible. Yes, WWE is great and I’m thankful to have had the experience twice. But there are so many amazing companies like TNA, AEW, MLW, GCW, and several others where I wish to wrestle before even considering going back to WWE. It might be that WWE isn’t the place for me. I tried it twice, and it both worked and didn’t. Right now, I want to wrestle for companies that value me. WWE doesn’t seem to want me right now, so I want to enjoy wrestling again by wrestling where I’m desired.”
