Heath Slater has revealed an incident regarding a WWE live event where John Cena lost his temper due to a segment which he believed belittled the image of the Nexus. The event entailed a number of good-guy wrestlers attacking the Nexus with foam pool noodles in what was intended as a light-hearted gag. However, Cena, who was having a serious rivalry with Nexus at that point, felt that this scene diluted the Nexus’ seriousness. Slater narrated the event while speaking to Inside the Ropes.
Below are some highlights from the podcast:
Discussing the dynamics of the in-ring skit, Slater said, “An interesting anecdote related to that. There was a live event. John Cena was caught up in a cage match. We all made a beeline for the cage, breached it and laid into Cena. Then, Santino, Morrison, Kofi and other good guys stormed in, armed with foam pool noodles. They started whacking us with the noodles and we played along. But after a while we retaliated, it was bewildering.”
On Cena’s response behind the scenes, he revealed, “Backstage, Cena was livid. He grabbed a red stool and hurled it to the floor. He raged at us, “Guys, seriously, what’s going on? We’re putting effort into establishing this group as killers, and you decide to use pool noodles for a fight?”. He berated the others in an attempt to defend us. It was nice to see Cena being somewhat involved, but that was an instance where the portrayal of us as ruthless fighters was somewhat compromised. They descended upon us, wielding pool noodles. It was beyond comprehension.”
In another section, TJ Wilson expressed his elation and pride after Jey Uso emerged victorious from the men’s Royal Rumble match in January. In an appearance on the “Developmentally Speaking” podcast, Wilson shared his excitement for Uso and his congratulatory text message. He further reaffirmed his belief in Jey Uso and his brother, expressing his conviction of their continued success in future matches.
