Evolve Hurting After Cancelled WrestleMania Week, May Sell To WWE

EVOLVE

Evolve, the would-be feeder organization to WWE and NXT, is not in the best shape. Forced to cancel their WrestleMania Weekend events because of the global pandemic, the organization is rumored to be suffering major financial hurdles. Their social media has been silent regarding any future programming, and some are assuming that WWE will absorb the company and its tape library. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer (subscription required) speaks candidly on the subject in the most recent issue, but also states that sources at either company denied any part of the story.

If Evolve were to cease operations, it would be a huge blow to WWE’s black and yellow brand. The entire backbone of the show for several years has been built on Evolve talent, including Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Matt Riddle, and others. Not only have they created amazing moments in the ring, but their shows have been invaluable in giving certain NXT talents times to grow away from the spotlight. Even current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre spent a portion of his time in the indies in the promotion after his first WWE run ended. The company would be wise to attempt to keep the company afloat, even if it means changing business tactics or integrating them into operations like the WWE Network.
