In the year 2020, the professional wrestling world saw the unexpected comeback of Eva Marie to WWE. She paired up with Piper Niven, otherwise known as Doudrop, for a brief period. However, in 2021, Marie ended her stint with WWE.

Marie offered insights into the WWE’s original blueprint for her return during a recent “Ring the Belle” podcast episode. Marie elaborated,

“When I was contemplating my return, the original storyline differed greatly from what unfolded. That’s quite usual in this sphere, though. The plan didn’t involve me exiting so quickly, it was supposed to be Doudrop and me against all. I was supposed to act as her guide–an idea which would have stirred some emotions, needless to say. Despite that, it had its charm. We were meant to have a prolonged tenure than what transpired eventually.”

Marie intended to adopt more of a mentor’s role, drawing parallels with Vickie Guerrero’s WWE tenure—nominal in-ring action and concentrated managerial duties. In her words,

“I was to continually prop Doudrop up while subtly belittling her, which was to culminate in her dismissing me. This climax was expected to offer a gratifying experience to the audience. That was the initial vision.”

The reality, however, saw Marie participating frequently in matches during her second tenure with WWE. Her in-ring career has been on hiatus since her departure from WWE in 2021.

Currently, Marie can be spotted in a variety of television and film endeavors. Meanwhile, Niven is continuing her journey with WWE as part of the Secret Hervice.
