In a recent appearance on The Ringer podcast, Ethan Page, a well-known performer in WWE NXT, shared an interesting story that he’d heard about AJ Styles during his days in the independent wrestling circuit.
Page recounted that whenever an independent promotion booked Styles, it was rumored that they were required to furnish a video game for him to indulge in during his hotel stay. As a known gaming enthusiast, Styles allegedly enjoyed this perk.
Below are some noteworthy excerpts from the podcast:
About AJ Styles, Page shared, “AJ and I have had several brief exchanges. Mostly we’ve chatted about the age we were when we first got our break in WWE. We haven’t discussed gaming as yet. I’m hopeful of bumping into AJ once again and catching up. During my time on the independent circuit, there was this persistent whisper that if you signed AJ Styles for an indie event, you had to ensure a wrestling video game was available for his pleasure at his hotel.”
When asked why he found that aspect attractive about Styles, Page kept it real. “Although it was likely untrue, I remember hearing that as an 18-year-old newcomer on the independent wrestling scene and thinking, ‘This guy is the coolest wrestler ever.’ He’s not only making money but he’s actually enjoying his time on and off the job.”
