Eric Young had no desire to be part of Vince McMahon’s team again, especially after McMahon’s controversial return to WWE in the wake of his 2022 hush-money scandal.
Previously released from WWE in the spring of 2020, Young was reengaged as part of a series of reinstatements in late 2022 that took place following McMahon’s temporary departure from the organization.
McMahon, however, managed to maneuver his way back into WWE in January 2023, and Young’s official departure from the franchise was confirmed by April that year.
In a recent installment of the “Insight” podcast, Young revealed his motivations behind his decision to sever ties with WWE after McMahon’s comeback. His words were,
“Lots of factors played into my decision, but my main issue was simple: I didn’t want to be under the leadership of an individual like that. Of course, this was way before some other matters had surfaced. But, I had enough evidence to form an opinion about his professional conduct, and more significantly to me, his moral standing. I just find it impossible to give my services to someone of his nature.
“Ultimately, I requested a release, and they acceded to that request. I cannot disclose any additional information due to a non-disclosure agreement I signed. So, it’s rather complicated.”
Young has transitioned to TNA Wrestling, where he’s a former World Champion, X-Division Champion, and Tag Team Champion.
