Eric Bischoff believes when you’re nWo…you’re nWo for life. But that really doesn’t translate to the NBA, where players jump teams at the drop of a hat. Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant has been on his fair share of NBA teams throughout his 14-year career.
But The Brooklyn Nets, in particular, have been referenced as the NBA’s nWo several times this season. Referencing the trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden and their black and white uniforms.
Kevin Durant recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated to discuss the comparisons to the nWo and reveals he was a big fan of the faction while growing up, but doesn’t think the Brooklyn Nets are like the famed faction despite their similarities:
“I definitely appreciate the group and what they brought to the entertainment space,” Kevin Durant said. “I was a huge fan as a kid. [But] I don’t…It kind of looks that way, right? Our team wears all black and we kind of got three guys on the team that a lot of fans in the NBA don’t really like as much. It can seem that way, but I don’t think we take on that mentality. I think we come in and operate at a pretty smooth, easy, reserved level. We’re just very high-skilled guys, but I guess [from] the outside perception, it can seem that way. But for us, we just really enjoy to play every day.”
Eric Bischoff, however, would love to welcome the former NBA World Champion into arguably the greatest professional wrestling faction of all time:
“Kevin Durant would be welcomed with open arms, by not only myself, the architect of the NWO, but also Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash,” Eric Bischoff said. “We would love to have Kevin Durant be a lifetime member of the NWO.”
