It was originally reported that WWE had asked “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in the absence of The Rock, but Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer later confirmed that the pitch was for a match against Brock Lesnar.
Former WCW President Eric Bischoff addressed the reports, suggesting that he would love to see a potential dream match between Austin and Reigns at WrestleMania. Bischoff wrote,
“Oh man! A big part of me would love to see this! And how they build towards it if it’s true. We should know soon.”

While Lesnar has already found his WrestleMania rival in Bobby Lashley, WWE is yet to announce an opponent for Austin should The Texas Rattlesnake return to the ring at The Showcase Of Immortals.
WrestleMania 39 takes place on April 1 and 2, 2023, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
