Eric Bischoff On His Match With Shane McMahon Match At SummerSlam 2003

Eric Bischoff was happy to work with Shane McMahon at SummerSlam 2003 but was likely feeling sore the next day.

The Bischoff-McMahon feud began when the WCW alum began making unwarranted advances at Shane’s mother Linda McMahon, culminating in a pay-per-view match.

On a recent episode of his “83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff reflected on his match against Shane and the reputation for McMahon being stiff in the ring. He said,

“I was excited about it — I’ve always liked Shane. He’s so intense, physical, passionate, and talented. I was a little concerned about how I was going to perform. Typically, when I got into the ring, I was just there to get my a-s kicked and pay off a storyline.

“He is … I don’t want to say stiff because that’s an understatement. But I was excited, it was a great opportunity — I knew there would be a lot of focus on the match and there was a story backing it up.”

Bischoff, who enlisted the help of The Coach, would lose to McMahon at SummerSlam, thanks to a last-minute assist from ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.
