Veteran wrestling personality, Eric Bischoff has publicly queried the lengths All Elite Wrestling (AEW) went to modify a steel chair used in the gruesome Blood & Guts match, suggesting a simpler solution could’ve been implemented.
The steel chair under scrutiny was purportedly ‘shaved down’ and it was used as a devastating weapon against Jack Perry in the brutal contest.
Bischoff shared his doubts about the altering process during his recent “Wise Choices” podcast, where he questioned the practicality and safety of ‘shaving’ a chair to be used in a wrestling match. He said,
“I don’t know anything about shaved chairs or ‘Jungle’ Jack Perry or anything else. But let’s consider the shaving of a chair because, how does one even do that? It seems like an excessive amount of work… especially if you plan to gimmick a chair for every match you perform.
“It would end up being incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes it would work fantastically, sometimes not as much… I spent a bit of time in a woodworking class… so I understand the concept but I’m not convinced that’s the most effective way to make a chair safer for wrestling.”
Preferring a professionally made prop, Bischoff made the suggestion of purchasing a specially designed chair from a reputable prop manufacturer. He continued,
“Why put in so much labor for just a single chair shot? Why not come up with an alternative idea?”
Despite the infamous shot, Perry, the current TNT Champion, remained unyielding. The high-stakes match concluded with The Elite losing after team member Matt Jackson capitulated, when Darby Allin theatrically threatened to ignite Perry.
