Jim Ross is the Hulk Hogan of announcers and should therefore be kept special, as far as Eric Bischoff is concerned.
In AEW, Ross doesn’t call every single show, despite often being heralded as the greatest commentator of all time, but is kept for main events and major matches.
Speaking on his “83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff explained why it is wise for AEW to not “overexpose” JR with a comparison to the Hulkster. He said,
“Jim Ross is the Hulk Hogan of announcers. Like Hulk Hogan, if you overexpose him and have him out there in every match, you’re not getting the maximum value. The maximum value makes him feel special, because if Jim Ross is special, so is the match that’s going on in the main event.”
Ross called the main event of the first episode of AEW Collision, mere hours after suffering a fall that is believed to have given him a concussion.
