Declining viewership and live show attendees at recent AEW events have cast shadows of doubt over the wrestling company’s future stability. This situation has led passionate fans to draw comparisons with the historical progression of WCW.
Mercedes Mone shared her perspectives on the significant July 17th episode of AEW Dynamite. This particular broadcast signified the show’s 250th iteration. Mone conveyed in her latest bulletin,
“I was filled with anticipation for Dynamite 250. This is a monumental achievement for AEW, particularly as we are on the cusp of exceeding WCW records in duration, contradicting the naysayers who doubted our survival.”
Controversially, Eric Bischoff, the former WCW President, denounced Mone’s assertions on an edition of his “83 Weeks” podcast. He likened the AEW fans who are thrilled about Dynamite potentially surpassing the lifespan of Nitro to children who are just beginning to develop their communication skills.
In his words, “Who cares, right? Bunch of AEW fans are like, ‘It’s incredible that ‘Dynamite’ might outlive ‘Nitro.’ It resembles a young kid, at the age of four or five, who’s just beginning to articulate thoughts. … No matter how earnest and passionate they are, it just sounds like gibberish.”
However, it is noteworthy that the 250th AEW Dynamite episode saw its highest viewership in three months along with the best 18-49 rating in six weeks. It attracted 795,000 viewers and received a 0.27 rating in the 18-49 category and a 0.17 rating for the 18-34 demographic.
