In a recent episode of his popular “83 Weeks” podcast, Eric Bischoff analyzed the match between Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness that took place in the preceding week’s episode of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.
He highlighted aspects from the podcast as follows:
Commenting on the lack of background set for Bryan Danielson against Nigel McGuinness, Bischoff stated, “I’m essentially identical to 99.999% of the American audience who had no inkling, and learned nothing of it on Dynamite during the days and weeks that lead up to this event. This is typical AEW mode – no backstory. Essentially, it’s positive if you’re a fan of Ring of Honor, you would be familiar with this story line if you’re one among the 300 nationwide. If not, it looks like a casual match. Sort of a fantasy match; while this isn’t undermining Nigel, I’m extremely happy for him. Nigel is very significant in my opinion. Currently, he’s one of the finest color commentators in the profession. It’s really unfortunate, considering the fit condition he is in and the brilliant opportunity this is for Nigel, that there isn’t a narrative associated with this.”
Additionally, on the narrative of Bryan potentially receiving medical clearance for the match, he remarked, “Well, that’s so feeble Conrad. You must concede — I mean, I’m aware you don’t want to criticize AEW. And I wouldn’t trash them just because I can, but that’s as lame as can be.”
