Edge, in anticipation of his 25-year anniversary celebration next week in Toronto, made an unadvertised appearance in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, preceding a significant challenge for the upcoming August 18th episode of WWE SmackDown.
The August 11th edition of SmackDown had not initially announced Edge’s presence, yet he chose to make an appearance motivated by a desire to reconnect with the WWE Universe in Hart Country, which he felt had been too long overdue. The purpose behind Edge’s appearance extended beyond his Homecoming in Toronto, as he aimed to render the August 18th episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown a distinctive affair. Notably, Edge issued a challenge to Sheamus for a match, marking a pivotal moment given that the two had never engaged in a one-on-one encounter during their shared tenure in WWE.
Elaborating on the backstory, Edge recounted how his participation in Sheamus’ Celtic Warrior Workouts YouTube channel, coupled with a biking mishap, had served as catalysts for his WWE return. With a fervent resolve, Edge invited Sheamus to the ring to acknowledge and accept the challenge.
Responding to Edge’s call, Sheamus reflected on a pivotal interaction that transpired in 2004, during which Edge’s words played a pivotal role in stoking his determination to ultimately make it to WWE. Accepting the challenge, Sheamus conveyed a sense of amicability, albeit punctuated with a cautionary undertone that Edge might be underestimating the situation.
Scheduled for an encounter in Toronto on August 18, these seasoned contenders hold the promise of a pint of Guinness shared in camaraderie post-bout.
