NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion EC3 has agreed with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins that match ratings are greatly overrated.
In July of this year, Rollins spoke about the star-rating system of Dave Meltzer and believes that the idea of rating matches is “silly” given that what fans appreciate is subjective.
During a recent episode of the “Wrestle Binge” podcast, EC3 agreed with Rollins’ attitude that match ratings are often given too much credit. He said,
“I agree 100%. Seth is spot on. And as a man who’s an uberly talented very successful professional wrestler, who’s done… all forms of wrestling from the highest quality, pure and real, pure wrestling possible to like outlandish and goofy nonsense, he has…he’s… one strong voice in the advocacy of star ratings are stupid. So, happy to have him on the team, man.
“I love Seth. The dude, like, I think we talked about after Mania, but…he had a 5-star match with a fricking Instagram influencer. Like, so, you know, he has some carte blanche too. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but his is actually correct.”
EC3 is in his first reign as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion after defeating Tyrus at last month’s NWA 75 pay-per-view event.

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion EC3 and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins recently expressed their agreement that match ratings are overrated. In an interview, Rollins criticized the star-rating system of Dave Meltzer, stating that it is “silly” to rate matches since fan appreciation is subjective.
During an episode of the “Wrestle Binge” podcast, EC3 echoed Rollins’ sentiments, emphasizing that match ratings are often given too much credit. As a highly talented and successful professional wrestler who has experienced various styles of wrestling, EC3 believes that star ratings are irrelevant. He expressed his support for Rollins, stating, “Seth is spot on. Star ratings are stupid.”
EC3 even praised Rollins for having a 5-star match with an Instagram influencer, highlighting that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Rollins’ perspective is correct. This further reinforces the idea that match ratings do not accurately reflect the quality or entertainment value of a wrestling match.
EC3 recently won his first NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship by defeating Tyrus at the NWA 75 pay-per-view event. With his experience in different wrestling promotions, EC3 brings a unique perspective to the discussion on match ratings.
The debate surrounding match ratings has been ongoing in the wrestling industry. While some fans and critics rely on star ratings to gauge the quality of matches, others argue that it is subjective and does not truly represent the enjoyment or impact of a wrestling performance.
Ultimately, the opinions of wrestlers like EC3 and Rollins shed light on the flaws of the star-rating system. Wrestling is an art form that elicits different reactions from each individual viewer. What one person may consider a 5-star match, another may find uninteresting or lacking in storytelling.
As fans, it is important to remember that our enjoyment of wrestling should not be solely based on match ratings. Instead, we should appreciate the athleticism, storytelling, and dedication that wrestlers bring to their craft. Whether a match receives a high rating or not, it is the emotional connection and entertainment value that truly matter.
