WWE Hall of Famer Afa Anoa’i, unfortunately, departed from this life on August 17, aged 81.
His nephew, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, paid his respects through a series of heartfelt posts on social media to commemorate his late uncle.
Johnson posted a tribute saying:
“Uncle Afa, rest in love -️.
A peaceful end has come to Uncle Afa Anoa’i, uniting him with his brother, Uncle Sika Anoa’i.
“The Wild Samoans” were pioneers paving the way in the realm of professional wrestling. As multi-time @WWE tag team champions, their rightful place was deservedly established in the WWE Hall of Fame.
The concluding picture is among my most cherished ones- featuring my uncles Afa and Sika with my grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, and presumably, that’s Professor Toru Tanaka.
The picture radiates love and unity apparent in the smiles of these men. This, however, isn’t a table you would dare to tamper with ——
I have a deep love for you, uncle. Your contributions to our family in ’87 will always be remembered. “Approach me”From Nashville to Bethlehem.
Deliver love to my grandpa and my dad with a warm hug and kiss on my behalf.”“.
The poignant and life affirming tribute was shared widely on social media platforms with the wrestling community, in particular, echoing the sentiments that “The Rock” expressed in his post. Dwayne Johnson’s heartfelt tribute to his beloved uncle is a touching reminder of the lasting impact Afa Anoa’i has had on his life and career.
