Drew McIntyre Shocks Randy Orton With A Backslide, Retains WWE Title At SummerSlam

At WWE SummerSlam, Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. Before the match, Michaels appeared via satellite and said he wants to see McIntyre kick Orton in the head. Orton immediately rolled out of the ring when the bell rang. He avoided McIntyre and played mind games with him. Orton dodged a strike and slid out of the ring. The champion chased Orton around the ring, and the Viper gained the upper hand. McIntyre dropped Orton with a shoulder block and dodged two RKO attempts. McIntyre slid out of the ring to gather his thoughts. The champion took control with some thunderous strikes. McIntyre dodged another RKO, but Orton sent him shoulder-first into the ring post.

Orton bounced McIntyre’s head off the ring post and the broadcast table. He suplexed the champion onto the table, too. The Viper suplexed McIntyre onto the floor. Orton grounded McIntyre and stomped him. McIntyre gained some momentum with a knee-breaker and dropped Orton with a spinebuster. The champion locked in a Figure-Four, but Orton thumbed McIntyre in the eye to escape. The competitors traded blows, and McIntyre countered an RKO. The champion tossed Orton with two suplexes.

Orton countered one Future Shock DDT, but the champion hit a second attempt for a two count. The Viper dodged a diving clothesline and hit a snap powerslam for a two count. McIntyre drilled Orton with a Glasgow Kiss and sent both of them crashing to the floor with a clothesline over the top rope. Orton dropped McIntyre with a spike DDT.

Orton set McIntyre up for an RKO, but then he went for a punt kick. McIntyre countered it into a powerbomb, but Orton dodged a Claymore Kick. McIntyre dodged an RKO and pinned Orton with a backslide to win the match.
