In a pre-WWE SummerSlam 2024 interview with Sam Roberts, Drew McIntyre spoke about his much-talked-about promo after the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. He had made some controversial comments, which included praying for an injury to befall fellow wrestler CM Punk.
Here are some key points from their candid conversation:
McIntyre discussed the extent he pushed the envelope with his “I prayed for this” speech. He admitted, “Initially, I intended the promo to be more intense, but after discussions with Triple H, we modified it to a level that wouldn’t upset too many people. Triple H played a pivotal role in grounding my thoughts and we reached a consensus, thus finalizing the words”.
McIntyre then addressed Punk’s substantial pay for his much-anticipated return. He stated, “Sure, CM Punk has a massive following, but he has been absent for seven months. Even though he is an established name, absorbing the absence like mine or not sharing my perspective, didn’t I actively contribute to maintaining his popularity? Didn’t my actions ultimately offer justification for the hefty paycheck he’s been banking this entire time, and the reason why fans are eagerly anticipating his upcoming impressive stadium show match? Isn’t it a two-way street? Quite the egocentric fellow, isn’t he?”
