Recently, Drew McIntyre appeared as a guest on the popular wrestling podcast “NotSam Wrestling”. During his time on the show, McIntyre elaborated on various topics, amongst which he discussed a period in 2022 when he felt discontented with his creative direction in his career.
Below are some notable parts of the conversation from the podcast:
On his dissatisfaction with his creative work: “There was a phase in my career, which was over a year ago now, where I wasn’t completely satisfied with the creative side of things. It dawned on me, for the first time ever, to take a break. I decided for the first time in my life to take some time away from it all.”
On coping with the death of his sister-in-law while evolving in his career: “As days passed, they [his wife and mother] began rediscovering their paths, learning how to continue living without her presence. Around this time, I also began discovering more avenues to delve into my character. It was a phase where I was just myself, unfiltered, authentic, all the time. If something didn’t suit me well, I would voice it out loud.”
Regarding the feedback he receives on his character: “I couldn’t care less if people backstage don’t approve. If the boys [fellow wrestlers] have an issue with it, they can deal with it.”
