Drew McIntyre says he wants to fight Colby Covington. In an interview with ESPN, McIntyre discussed several topics, including Covington’s claim that he would beat up the WWE Champion.
On how Colby Covington would do in WWE:
McIntyre: “I’m sure he’d do well. The problem is, he challenged me. And I like the fact that he’s aiming high. I talked about this on a radio show last week. I guess he was on the show, he called me out, he said that, you know, WWE wouldn’t sanction the match, that ‘I would fight Drew McIntyre,’ and I think about it like this. One, okay, if we’re not doing it in WWE, in WWE, I beat Brock Lesnar in five minutes in the main event of WrestleMania. How would he do in an MMA fight with Brock Lesnar? Probably not very good. So if he wants this unsanctioned fight, outside of the WWE, I’m willing to fight him in a bar or something. There’s a reason there’s different weight classes. I’m about a hundred pounds heavier than the guy, I’m about a foot taller than the guy, I’m willing to have an actual fight with him if he wants an unsanctioned fight. It’ll put more eyes on the product, perfectly happy with me, I’ll smash his head in. I’ll shut him up.
On being the face of WWE during the pandemic:
McIntyre: “I take it as a huge responsibility. I said leading WrestleMania, I’ve believed this since I returned to WWE, there’s no situation that my journey of ups and downs and everything in between has not prepared me for. I’m ready to put the company on my back and lead it forward into the future. Nobody could have predicted this situation, but I stand by my statement, what I said before. You know, I go with the flow, I adjust and, just like WWE I’m always trying to innovate and think outside the box. And right now, it’s my job, as brand ambassador, just to put as many eyes on the WWE product as possible.
