In a recent episode of “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Drew McIntyre shared insights on his ongoing feud with CM Punk, blending elements of real life issues with their legendary on-screen rivalry. Check out the highlights from McIntyre’s conversation below:
On the response from listeners regarding their match being the main event, despite no title at stake, McIntyre noted, “That’s quite significant. Numerous times, when fans were asked about the main event while unaware of my presence, they’d say, ‘It should be Punk and McIntyre.’ There’s a great amount of depth we have in our storytelling. Personal feuds are where true passion lies. If the audience is emotionally involved in the McIntyre versus Punk saga, that’s because it’s authentic. It matters deeply to me. Though I’ll tell those on after us – you have a tough act to follow.”
He also discussed his standpoint on the storyline of their feud, saying, “I’ve been wronged numerous times. I’d challenge anyone who thinks otherwise. Some label me as the villain, but they struggle to explain why. After hearing their perspective, I lay out the facts, making them reconsider.’
Regarding Triple H’s creative influence on their feud, he added, “When you truly recognize your character, they grant you full liberty to express yourself. It’s relieving that I can intensely assert my ‘storylines’, emphasizing my dislike for CM Punk. Simply, I can’t stand him.”
McIntyre also delved into their past issues, “There’s a lot more to the story. Punk has significantly influenced my early career. I haven’t disclosed all details yet, and perhaps I will eventually. But the times he has wronged me on screen is no secret. He has tried to defeat me, but I’ve hit back, both on and offscreen.”
Discussing Punk’s propensity for injuries, he said, “I just hope he manages to survive for another day. He’s so fragile I fear touching him. I doubt he’d survive, had we been allowed to touch each other. I intend to hurt him. This is not going to be a clean wrestling match. I plan to swap his smile for a black eye, break his jaw, tear his triceps, rip his quads. He’s going to be pleading for mercy. Given my in-ring peak performance, my physical and character excellence, I look forward to teaching him a lesson.”
In other news, Mark Henry shared his anticipation for the upcoming GUNTHER vs. Damian Priest match at WWE SummerSlam 2024 on the same podcast.
According to Henry, “GUNTHER [vs. Damian Priest]. Currently, GUNTHER is my favorite wrestler. Despite his considerable transformation, his grim, flinty demeanor hasn’t budged an inch. He truly represents a determined, relentless kind of wrestling.”
