Enjoying the free agent’s life, Donovan Dijak is eager to prove his worth in the ring before settling down with another leading promotion. On the “Wrestling With Things” podcast, Dijak expounded on the liberty of molding his WWE character, the refreshing autonomy he’s currently experiencing, and more.
Some noteworthy elements from his podcast discussion include:
Concerning shaping his character beyond the WWE, Dijak shared, “For the majority of my career, I’ve portrayed some version of this character, except for my time as T-Bar. Essentially, it’s nice to have full control of my character after seven or eight years of expressing something that reflects who I am and my life… It was never like I had substantial freedom in Ring of Honor, a lot of it was handed to me.”
On his newfound creative sovereignty, he expressed his relief, “Currently, I don’t need to seek permission or do something, hoping I don’t catch flak; I don’t have to deal with that as I did for seven years with WWE. So, in that aspect, it’s wonderful.”
About his contractual status with various companies, he affirmed, “I’m a free agent, and I am perfectly willing to work with any world organization, and I am excited about the prospects.”
Regarding the possibility of signing a new contract, Dijak voiced his reality, “The truth is I’m 37 years old, and the seven years I spent under the WWE amplified my stature, but I’m not satisfied with where I am in my career. At this point, I envisioned myself as a leading contender, a champion, and carrying a television product, but that didn’t occur in WWE – but that’s my self-perception.”
On what he seeks in a potential new association, he pointed out, “I don’t need to just showcase my stellar fights and remain stagnant in the mid-card. I’ve reached that plateau; hence, I require greater confidence if I’ll be with a company for a significant duration.”
About his readiness to sign contracts, he assured, “There’s no urgency. My objective is to prove my chops as a free agent, secure championships on the free market, and display my talents overseas, which have been absent for the past seven years.”
On his preferred opponents, he commented, “I just don’t wish to engage with contenders who aren’t fully invested right now as I’ve had my share of such bouts before… I’m disinterested in spending my energy trying to persuade someone to join me in a splendid match… The ultimate match would obviously be against Keith Lee, with our long shared history, I believe fans will be eagerly anticipating that. I think we can organize an entire pay-per-view event around such a match if we so desired.”
