At the AEW Grand Slam, a dramatic turn of events almost led to a changing of the guard for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Wrestling duo, Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher, were a hairsbreadth away from victory, keeping the reigning champions on their heels for a significant portion of the bout.

Nonetheless, veteran Don Callis had an old trick up his sleeve. He handed a screwdriver to Kyle Fletcher, hoping it would be used to deliver the final blow to The Young Bucks. However, Ospreay was quick to intervene, snatching the tool from Fletcher’s grasp and reprimanding both of them for their attempt at dishonesty.

The ensuing distraction enabled Matthew and Nicholas Jackson to seize the moment, mercilessly striking both Ospreay and Fletcher on their heads with the championship belts. In the end, The Young Bucks secured their win with a successful pinfall. The commentators noted that if it had not been for the unnecessary intervention from Callis, the tide would have favored the challengers.

A tweet by All Elite Wrestling captures the intense moment:

Not like this, Kyle!

This isn’t the first instance where Ospreay’s disapproval of Callis’s unprincipled ways has led to their downfall but it’s the first time Fletcher has been a casualty of this strategy. It leaves us questioning whether he would hold Callis or Ospreay responsible.
