Dominik Mysterio recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet and reflected on the beginning of his WWE career, where he said he’s constantly learning on the fly. He also named some dream opponents. Here are some highlights:

On how the classic Eddie Guerrero storyline influenced his wrestling career:

Mysterio: “Now that I’ve given it some thought, I think [it made me love wrestling more.] Because it made me love and appreciate the industry and everyone in the back, and I personally enjoyed traveling from city to city with my dad, like the long car rides with him, and going to the airport in mornings and being able to fight for the window with him so I could be able to sleep. But I personally enjoyed all that, so I think, in the long run, it definitely did nudge me a little bit more toward being able to start wrestling.”

On getting hit with a kendo stick by Seth Rollins:

Mysterio: “So I’d never actually been hit with a kendo stick before. I always had one in my room because I loved them. As a kid, I loved the idea of a kendo stick, watched Sandman, the whole deal, so I always had one. And had my dad give me little love taps, but I never actually got hit with one. So when Rollins laid that first one in, I immediately knew it was gonna be a long, long segment. And they just kept coming and kept coming, and they hurt more and more. It was just, it was at the point where my body just numbed out.”

On his dream opponents:

Mysterio: “I’ve always said Randy Orton, just because I’ve always been a big fan and I love his style of work. But I think dream matches, besides Randy, someone like Andrade, I think me and him, I just wrestled him very briefly on Monday, with him and [Angel] Garza, but I would love to get in there a little bit longer with Andrade, Garza, Humberto [Carrillo], I’d love to go one on one with Humberto. I think that would be absolutely phenomenal.”

On his first frog splash being in front of a live crowd:

Mysterio: “When I hit the frog splash on Brock [Lesnar], we were in the back talking about what we could do if something presented itself. And my dad was like, ‘Hit him with a frog splash.’ I was like, I’ve never done a frog splash before. He’s like well…. I just started looking at videos of how Eddie [Guerrero] used to do it, and it kind of just came together.”

The first time trying it [was to Brock Lesnar.] [It was my] first time swinging a chair, too.”
