Dominik Mysterio has shed some light on the original ideas WWE had for him during the legendary Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio match, where his custody was up for grabs. According to him, the company had initially contemplated having him hung above the ring during the high-stakes SummerSlam 2005 encounter.
Highlights of Dominik, fondly known as Dirty Dom, speaking on this during a recent stint on the “Impaulsive” podcast can be seen below:
Disclosing the extent of his knowledge on the plot at the time he said: “To a certain degree, I was aware of the contrasts, but there were moments when it became a real challenge to separate fact from fiction. Particularly when Eddie was wrestling in the ring. I’m among the lucky few who can say they’ve shared a ring with Eddie Guerrero. I distinctly recall one moment in the match when I attempted to shake the ladder and Eddie turned to me, wagging his finger. I can’t exactly recall what was supposed to happen next, but I remember him furiously cornering me. He screamed, ‘I’m going to teach you how to be a Guerrero.’ My father intervened in the nick of time, and the match continued. I was too stunned to move. The referee, Charles Robinson, had to physically pull me out from under the ring.”
Elaborating on the original vision for the bout, he added: “Did you hear what they initially planned for me? They contemplated suspending me from a cage. Or, more accurately, they wanted me to dangle from some sort of waist harness. Yes, akin to the Money In The Bank briefcase, but with me in its place.”
